IDS HOUSTON CHAPTER
FUND RAISER
2010

IDS Fund Raisers are designed to benefit our community.  They also raise awareness of the IDS Houston Chapter in the community.  We choose our project recipients based on the benefits and services they provide the community as a whole.  Whether the end recipient is a family or an organization we strive to support those that work to make life better for all and those that are in need.  As a part of the community the IDS Houston Chapter strives to not only prosper as a chapter but to help those around us succeed also.

IDS is a not for profit organization.  Therefore the funds we raise are used for the projects we are sponsoring.  The monies we raise cover only our costs to provide a service and the remainder goes to the project recipient or the organization that provides the community service.

All vendors that donate to our project are listed as such and published as supporters of the IDS Chapter Fund Raiser and the community.

**At times we may sponsor a fund raiser to send our IDS officers for special training in order for the chapter to continue to excel and grow.  We will promote this as a fund raiser for an IDS Chapter purpose.

                HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
A NEW BEGINNING
2010

The IDS Houston Chapter is raising funds for a North West Houston Habitat for Humanity house.  These funds will be used to design and implement the interior of the house.  Plans are in process and we have a recipient family.  The house is in under construction and should be completed in late April or early May.  We as a chapter will be working with the family to determine their needs and also the interior design for the home.  We are currently looking for vendors to donate materials and funds for this project.  We also are seeking individuals as well as companies that would like to help with funding.  Please contact us at houstonids@gmail.com

Home Completed and Move in Accomplished December 2010

Our homeowner has moved into her beautiful new home.  Although our homeowner was not moved in IDS was there on move-in day to finish up some last details of our delivery.  There was lots of excitement and many tears and smiles.

Construction Report August 28, 2010

Things have been moving slowly at the jobsite.  We are waiting on the doors to be hung and some finish up work to be completed before we can send in our painter to paint the rooms.  We have our decorative items and furniture in temporary storage waiting for the go ahead from Habitat.  We are so ready to complete this project as is our homeowner.

Construction Report June 16, 2010

Seems the timing was off even more than we though.  The problem was paperwork with the county which has now been corrected.  As always in construction timing is an moving target.  Sometime in August is the target now.

The electrical work is completed as is the plumbing.  The sheetrock was in the house today and is scheduled to be hung the 19th.  There is still lots of work to be done and the hot weather seems to slow everyone down but it is coming.  Our homeower is getting very excited about moving into her new home.

We have all the paint now and possibly a painter that is willing to contribute his time to paint.  Also we have a valance being made for the son's bedroom.

IDS Houston's June Meeting On Site At The Ringer House

Welcome to the IDS Houston meeting for June 2010.  We are here to discuss what we need to do in this space.  This is so exciting being in this house.

Yes we are designers and we can't keep our hands off the project.  We are working now.  We are seriously into it now.

There are details to be discussed.

And then there is lunch and we surely take that seriously.

It was hot.  It was dirty.  It was great working together.

IDS Houston Habitat for Humanity Project 2010

Construction Report May 14, 2010

The Ringer house is under construction.  There have been some building delays and this has pushed our finish date out to the end of June 2010.  Possibly even later at this point.

At this time the interior walls are in as well as the plumbing and the tile is laid. The electrical work is on the schedule.  Once the electrical is complete the sheetrock will be installed and the cabinets hung.  Then the house will be painted and the carpeting laid.  There are still items we could use to finish this home.  If you are interested in helping with this please see our contact us page.

Interior Design Materials Report May 14, 2010

IDS is working on procuring the materials we will need to complete the interior once the house is completed.  We have worked with Mrs. Ringer and chosen the paint colors for the interior.  At this point Sherwin Williams has donated the paint to cover the living area and the kitchen.  We still need the paint for the three bedroom and the two baths.

Bassett Furniture has donated a beautiful queen size bed and headboard, as well as a media chest for the son's bedroom.  Mr. Ken Dinges has donated his building talents to build two bedside tables that will be attached to the wall next to the bed.  This will save valuable floor space in the room.  Bassett Furniture has also donated a lovely wall mirror and three pendant lights for the living area.

We still need the window treatments, area rugs and other items to complete the interior.  If you are interested in contributing to this project please contact...Cathy Salyers @ gcsalyers@yahoo.com

Construction Report  April 24, 2010

Big changes have happened since we were last at the Ringer house.  The roof is complete, the siding has been installed and painted.  Mrs. Ringer chose the color pale blue gray for her home's exterior.  The tile has been laid.  The exterior doors are also installed as are all the windows.  The pony wall in the kitchen has been framed.  The house is taking shape on the inside now.  Our home owner was on site when I was there.  She is excited about her new home and was eager to discuss what IDS is planning.  The purpose of this visit was to talk with the electrician in regard to the placement of the three pendant light from Bassett Furniture.  No electrician showed, I asked the team leaders to call me when he does show so I can go over to discuss the light placement and wiring with him.

Construction Report February 24, 2010

The foundation is poured and cured and the wall are up.  The roofing is being completed as can be seen.  The plumbing is in at this point also.  The IDS committee headed by Cathy Salyers is working on a design plan.  Cathy had met with the homeowner Mrs. Ringer earlier, to discuss her vision of the home.  Today Cathy called a meeting to further discuss the action plan.  Elaine Dorcheus, Sherran Domescik and Elizabeth Dinges met with Cathy to discuss this action plan and get the implementation started.  Cathy, Sherran and Elizabeth met with Rachel Wright of Habitat NW Houston to view the house.  It is very exciting to be on our way with this project.
